In many parts of North Cyprus, the road is not really a road.
It is a negotiation.

One narrow strip of asphalt.
Stone walls on one side.
A drop, a slope, or a blind bend on the other.
Two directions. No shoulder. No forgiveness.

Esentepe, Zeytinlik, and the Kyrenia mountain roads were not designed for modern traffic. They were shaped for donkeys, weather, and patience. Cars arrived later. Speed arrived much later. Judgment, unfortunately, did not always follow.

On these roads, accidents rarely come from aggression.
They come from assumptions.

Assuming the bend is clear.
Assuming the other driver will slow down.
Assuming rain behaves the same on a slope.
Assuming mirrors are enough.

A few centimeters decide everything.

This is why claims in mountain areas look “small” at first. A scraped door. A cracked mirror. A bent suspension arm. But the consequences stretch out. Recovery takes longer. Repairs cost more. Waiting becomes the real damage.

The risk here is not speed.
It is geometry.

Gravity pulls water downhill faster than drivers expect. Visibility collapses after one sharp curve. When two cars meet face to face, there is no space to correct a mistake. Only time, reaction, and preparation matter.
