We Didn’t Sell This Policy.

Here’s Why.

On paper, everything worked.

The vehicle was in good condition.
The premium was acceptable.
The system allowed the policy to be issued.

But one detail stopped us.

The vehicle was being used for business,
while it was requested to be insured as private use.

That difference matters more than most people realize.

“Occasional” business use doesn’t exist

In insurance, usage is not defined by intention.
It is defined by reality.

If a vehicle:

  • generates income

  • is used regularly for work

  • supports a commercial activity

it is no longer private use. Even if it’s “just sometimes.”

This distinction may seem minor. At claim stage, it becomes decisive.

What would have happened if we sold it?

A claim would be reported.
The usage would be reviewed.
The discrepancy would surface immediately.

At that point:

  • the file would slow down

  • questions would multiply

  • trust would begin to erode

And the most frustrating sentence would appear:
“This should have been declared from the start.”

We chose not to let it get that far.

“But I don’t expect an accident”

That belief is human.
And it’s exactly why insurance exists.

Insurance isn’t about what we expect to happen.
It’s about what happens when expectations fail.

A policy built on the wrong usage doesn’t protect you.
It only feels like it does.

What we did instead

We didn’t issue the policy.
We explained the risk clearly.
We reset expectations.

We discussed the correct structure and alternatives, even if that meant waiting.

A wrong policy creates comfort.
A correct decision creates protection.

Why we’re sharing this

Most insurers write about claims they paid.
Very few talk about policies they refused to sell.

But real advisory work often begins with saying no.

It’s also measured by what we deliberately choose not to.
