Q: What is the most common insurance mistake in this region?
Alp Can: Insuring properties based on market value rather than reconstruction cost. Especially along the coast, this mistake can be very expensive. Insurance is about rebuilding, not resale price, and those two figures are often confused.
Q: What do you see most often in older areas such as Lapta and parts of Kayalar?
Alp Can: Age matters. Electrical systems, plumbing, and roof structures become critical. Yet policies are often issued as “standard home insurance.” In reality, there is no such thing as a standard home. Every property carries its own risks.
Q: Kayalar has many new homes. Does that reduce risk?
Alp Can: The risk doesn’t disappear, it changes shape. New villas and projects may have better construction quality, but we frequently see incorrect square meter declarations, missing coverage, or shared areas excluded from the policy. A new home does not automatically mean correct insurance.
Q: What about motor insurance in this area?
Alp Can: Second vehicles are very common. Cars are used less, but comprehensive policies are often chosen at the highest level by habit. Unnecessary coverages quietly inflate premiums.
Q: How do clients usually approach you?
Alp Can: Most start with “my neighbour did it this way.” That’s where our work begins. Your neighbour’s needs may not match yours.
Q: How does CAN Sigorta approach insurance in this region?
Alp Can: Conversation before policy. Explanation before paperwork. Sometimes we deliberately advise against certain coverages. That surprises people, but trust is built exactly there.
Q: What does being a regional representative mean to you?
Alp Can: Not speaking from the centre. Knowing how people here live, how they use their homes and cars. Looking at the situation, not just the document.
Q: One final piece of advice for residents of this area?
Alp Can: Whether your home is old or brand new, don’t think of insurance as “if something happens,” but as “what happens when it does.” That difference changes everything.
